hi there.

Welcome to my blog. I'm spending a year capturing happiness, and I invite you to come along as I journey toward a more joyful living. I also write about travel, food, and matters of the spirit. Hope you enjoy!

Prayer Time

Prayer Time

Embarrassing anecdote: I'm envisioning the Power Rangers saying, "It's morphing time!" as I write the title of the post. In case you're wondering, yes. I was always the Pink Ranger.

So. This actually harkens back to yesterday, something I read in a book called Intercessory Prayer by Dutch Sheets. The long story goes into the book of Genesis and discusses Hebrew translations of what it means to be made in God's image and likeness, and to be given charge ("to rule") over creation, and then he looks at the prophets' prayers and other hugely significant biblical moments, and how they always began with prayer as a catalyst for action, but I don't have time to recap the proper details to you. You'll just have to trust me on this: the short story is that our prayers matter and they have an effect and we should pray.

I was really inspired yesterday to pray as though my prayers made a difference, and today I woke up thinking about that. Then, two of my three calendar verses of the day were about prayer.  (Aside from the cover photo, which is "Pray all the time" from Ephesians --although it's found in Thessalonians and elsewhere, there was this: "Whatever you ask for when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them." Mark 11:24) To quote my friend Morgan, "Let's gooooooo!"

I was feeling pumped!

And anyway, today was just a day in which I actively prayed more. And I saw prayers get answered. And then my friends at home group spent time praying together. And we started asking for big things, like the dissipation of Irma. But it was just an exciting time because God is really awesome. The more I know and the more I learn, the more I believe this to be true. And therein lies the source of my joy, today, yesterday, and tomorrow. Spending time with God is like spending time with anyone you want to have a relationship with, and the more time you spend together, the more you realize: THIS PERSON IS SO FLIPPING COOL, AND THEY LIKE ME, THEY REALLY REALLY LIKE ME! I AM SO LUCKY!

And I pray that everyone out there can feel so lucky, too. Because truth: YOU ARE SO LUCKY, TOO. I hope this moment can be the catalyst for your own joyful moment today. <3
