They say shared joy is double joy, shared sorrow is half sorrow. Today I offered to grieve with my boss and share the burden of her sorrow: yesterday her daughter left to study for a semester in Thessaloniki. She was sad her daughter was in Greece; I was sad that I was not. We commiserated by eating dinner at the Greek restaurant, Kleos.
The idea originated because I wanted to thank her for writing a recommendation letter for me to be an English teacher in Greece through the Fulbright program. But this evening evolved from details about packing for Greece into a really awesome and deep conversation (and would it surprise anyone to know that I managed to find a way to recommend the book Who is this Man?)
I've always been grateful to work where I do and to have the supervisor that I have--she's honestly the best in the world. But I'm really happy for this evening and the new places we went.
