All of my Joyful moments today stemmed from running into people I knew and getting to savor those moments.
Today was Staff Development Day at work, which feels a little like yearbook day for employees at Brown: we get paid to have fun, either by taking educational workshops or exploring the university grounds or making sandwiches for charity missions or having lip-sinc battles. There was a catered lunch and snacks on the green and free alcohol and frosted cupcakes. It was an out-of-the-norm day, which was exciting in its own right.
But on top of that, I ran into friends I know in other departments, including one person whom I was able to have lunch with and dive into deep conversation, and it was really awesome to have that opportunity. And at one point I was walking and talking with one woman I know from Christian Staff Fellowship, and she ran into someone she knew, and then we saw two more people from CSF, and then I saw my friend I know from Sanctuary--ALL AT ONCE! Considering I know very few people at Brown, it was an exciting moment for me.
Then later, when I was walking to a coffee shop to have conversational Greek practice (gosh, I need help!), I ran into a friend from grad school. We couldn't talk long, but even a few minutes felt like a gift.
It's always a happy time for me when such things happen.
