After church I was able to go out for coffee with a friend I haven't caught up with (one-on-one) in a while.
There are some friends whom you need to monitor what you say, or are hesitant to say it like it is, but Brad is one of the people with whom I know I can keep it real. There's honesty and openness, even when talking about our struggles or rejoicing in our victories. Today we sat outside for nearly two hours, despite the sun moving behind clouds and the chilled breezes beckoning colder weather and rain, and I lost track of time.
That was the highlight of the day (delicious chai latte notwithstanding). Plus, I could finally cash in on my points card at Sydney!
Essence: It is so great to have such people in one's life who aren't interested in shallow platitudes or surface conversation, but who ask the tough questions and allow themselves to be vulnerable.
It's part of talking the good talk of friendship.
