Today I saw a single rose peeking out from beside the backyard steps. I didn't know we grew roses, yet suddenly there it was, in full bloom. Its brilliant pink was such a contrast to the grey stone that surrounded it that it pulled my eye away from my purse just long enough to realize what it was.
The thought flashed through my head: stop and smell the roses.
So, I took a photo and doted on the rose. It was the first thing I did today.
In a more classic joyful moment, I attended the Food Truck awards ceremony in Rhode Island. I was a presenter, but I didn't have huge expectations for what sort of event it might be or who would attend.
It turned out to have more than my share of people to talk to! I was able to catch up with a friend whom I met via Motif Magazine because I interviewed her for an article years ago. She's beautiful, smart, and can make handmade pasta with her eyes closed (probably).
And I just found many people I hadn't connected with for so long and realized I was excited to see them, too.
Overall, today was a day of happy surprises.
