Finally! Beach days have arrived!
Last week it rained and was cold enough to turn the heat back on in my house, so when I realized that today was going to be balmy and beautiful, and I didn't have any set plans, I decided to spend a sabbath on the beach.
The ocean rejuvenates me in a way few things can. I didn't have anyone to go with, so I just took a backpack full of books and drove down to Matunk to spend the afternoon. t was so...relaxing! I read an anthology I bought at AWP in February, the latest from orthern Passage, nd the first story in the book was written by someone I know! (He was a Fellow at Writing Workshops in Greece.)
Then I went to the Ocean Mist for a drink overlooking the sea. I didn't know what to order, so Sulley the Bartender whipped something up that (by request) "wasn't too sweet," and it ended up being perfect.
I asked if it had a name, and he said no, so I'm calling it "The Sulley." It looked like he combined a Deep Eddy (flavored) vodka, St. Germaine, and a splash of soda, with lemon and lime as garnish.
On my way out of town, I stopped for gasoline in N. Kingstown, and the station just so appened to be next door to an ice cream shop. Soooo, obviously I had ice cream for dinner.
so. Beach day. Books. The Sulley. Ice cream for dinner.
It was a great inaugural day to summer.
