hi there.

Welcome to my blog. I'm spending a year capturing happiness, and I invite you to come along as I journey toward a more joyful living. I also write about travel, food, and matters of the spirit. Hope you enjoy!

Let Go

Let Go

Some days have themes. Today's theme, apparent from the moment I woke up (and perhaps initiated when I went to bed last night) was "Let go."

Let go of control.

Let go of selfish desires.

Let go of stress, fear, and worry.

Let go.

Recently, I've been riding the stress train because of fundraising logistics. A week ago I was prepared with THE PERFECT PLAN, but to make a long story short, it wasn't coming together as envisioned. We kept hitting snags, and it was morphing into something that only sort of resembled our idea. I was clinging so tightly to the vision we had that I was unhappy with every alternative.

Thankfully, I have wonderful friends who can redirect me to what's important. They reminded me of why I wanted to go on this trip in the first place, which involved being fully present on the adventure, excited for whomever I was going to meet and wherever I was going to go. And the stress of blogging and fundraising and pitching ideas had started getting the way. I needed to let go of the idea that this could be my big break. That this could be how I am "discovered."

Anyway. I endeavored to "let go" (I almost wrote "Let it go," and was immediately bombarded with the song that I'm happy to plant in all of your brains now), and this morning---

Behold.

And then my friend BR sent me two songs he heard on the radio that explicitly state--in the first stanza--needing to let go of control. The songs he sent me played back to back on the radio.

We are both in the same boat, by the way.

I'll leave with one of the songs he shared. I'd never heard it before, but it resonated so completely that I'd memorized the lyrics by the second time I played it.

(It hits on themes that are greater than just the current scenario mentioned above, in case it seems melodramatic for fundraising ventures.)

~Lyrics below~ And so: The words of the song are my gratitude today, as well as prayers that have been answered, as well as friends who are in my boat and share their life rafts with me :)

I believe that You are God alone

But sometimes I still try to take control

Cause I get scared when I can't see the end

And all You want from me is to let go

You're parting waters

Making a way for me

You're moving mountains that I don't even see

You've answered my prayer before I even speak

All You need for me to be is still

I bring my praise before I bring my need

Cause there's no fear You've not already seen

I rest my heart on all Your promises

Cause I have seen and know Your faithfulness

You're parting waters

Making a way for me

You're moving mountains that I don't even see

You've answered my prayer before I even speak

All You need for me to be is still

And know that You are God

Be still

And know that You, trust that You are parting waters

Lord, You whispered my name

Oh, You answered my prayer

You're moving mountains

You're parting waters

Making a way for me

You're moving mountains that I don't even see

You've answered my prayer before I even speak

All You need for me to be is still

Be still
