hi there.

Welcome to my blog. I'm spending a year capturing happiness, and I invite you to come along as I journey toward a more joyful living. I also write about travel, food, and matters of the spirit. Hope you enjoy!

Confetti Snow Bread

Confetti Snow Bread

The title should more accurately say "Confetti [Foundation], Snow [Day], and [Fresh] Bread," but Confetti Snow Bread sounds like a dessert I'd like to create someday. I can see it now. It resembles a donut covered in fruity pebbles--or pop rocks!-- like this donut from PVDonuts.

All right, in chronological order

1. Fresh bread, as was promised by my colleague. He followed through, and he gave me two whole wheat sourdough baguettes that are AMAZING. I ate 2/3 of one in a day. I should be ashamed, but it was still soft and fresh! Defrosted from the freezer just isn't the same, so I had to enjoy as much as I could.

(In exchange, I gave him my non-photogenic, i.e. ugly, sweet potato muffins, which he claimed tasted good and "healthy." I think that's fair. I had offered to give him an IOU, but he chose to take the extra muffins. Maybe he was afraid of what further experimentation in my kitchen might yield)

2. Snow Day! This morning I woke up thinking, "How WONDERFUL would it be to have a snow day where I could stay home all day and make Mexican burritos and apply for a writing contest?" And then miracle of miracles, Brown sent out an announcement that they were closing!!!! Brown hates to shut down, so this means we all may witness Armageddon, but hopefully I'll actually write an essay!

3. Today, Yelp Elites helped the Confetti Foundation make birthday boxes to give to kids who have to spend their birthdays inside of a hospital. This was so fun! The boxes are filled with a Happy Birthday banner (which we cut out and strung together), streamers, balloons, cups, plates, handmade birthday cards, a book, bookmark or coloring supplies, socks, streamers, etc. My box will go to a young-teenage girl. And I found the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry  (!) to include! I loved that book (I read it in middle school), but now that I'm on Team THUNDERSNOW, the name appeals to me even more. It seemed like a sign that it was THE book.

I'm glad to know this organization exists. They're always looking for handmade cards and other supplies, so my talented/creative friends, you may want to check it out :)
