hi there.

Welcome to my blog. I'm spending a year capturing happiness, and I invite you to come along as I journey toward a more joyful living. I also write about travel, food, and matters of the spirit. Hope you enjoy!

I'll take one of these, please.

I'll take one of these, please.

Despite the fact that I love Pirates of the Caribbean (well, Captain Jack Sparrow), this blog post is not about my love for the creepy pet-name one of the pirates gives to Kiera Knightly.

There is a lollipop store in Rhode Island called Popette of Pendulum, and they make beautiful confectionaries that are made from pure, natural ingredients, and are completely:

Vegan
Gluten Free
Dairy Free
Nut Free
Peanut Free

Not to mention, they're really pretty.

Today, I went by the Providence Arcade to try my luck at Augusta Street Kitchen's donuts (they currently only offer them at the Farmer's Market on Sunday), and they were already sold out. But Popette was there, and back in December I wrote a Food Lovers Gift Guide, and I included these as stocking stuffers. I wanted to introduce myself to the owner, and so I did.

First of all: she is THE NICEST person. I was tempted to pull up a chair and just hang out with her for a bit, maybe get us charm bracelets that say BFF. Surely that's not unusual upon a first encounter?

Second of all: as a thank you for the article I wrote, she offered me some Espresso drops (her best sellers). I insisted I pay for them, but she wouldn't allow it.

She actually uses brewed espresso in order to make them, in varying degrees of strength. She said, "As a writer, you must drink coffee, right?" (YES), and for the record, I just ate one and they are amazing.

Stocking stuffers, Valentine's gifts, Easter gifts, any occasion: these are great treats! I feel so fortunate to have finally met the woman behind the creation and to have had her extend such kindness to me!
