It's always interesting to read my first text message of the day, particularly when it comes before I've made it out of the door. Sometimes it's in reply to a text I sent the night before. Sometimes it's from someone in a different time zone, so he or she is writing me at a presumably normal hour. And sometimes it's just a kind word to get my day going.
Today was one such day. A friend wrote me this morning as I was drinking my morning coffee to say that one of my reviews on Yelp was featured in an email she received, and it made her want to go there. (It was for the drunken raspberry hot chocolate!) And then she said was reading my blog because it went well with her morning coffee.
There are maybe only so many times I should mention this, but as a writer (or teacher, or customer service rep, or nurse, or what have you), often you just go and go and go and hope that what you're doing is worthwhile. It's hard to believe anyone cares, particularly when dealing with the endless ether that is the Internet. So it always lightens my heart when someone sends a word of encouragement, and this morning was one such moment of gratitude.
It was also a good lesson in how pausing for a few seconds to tell someone his or her work is beautiful and awesome, can make a huge difference.
(Later this afternoon, another friend replied to a group email by sharing my Yelp blurb, which also made me smile.)
Thanks for lifting me up today, my friends. :)
