I’m cheating because this actually happened yesterday but I forgot to mention it. I have a separate Joyful moment for today as well, but what I’m about to say is so cool!
My friend just started working for Intervarsity, which is a campus ministry program, and she actually has to raise all of her own funds in order to 1) start working and 2) get paid. This comes through people sponsoring her, essentially.
Anyway, she was hoping to hit a benchmark percentage so she could start getting paid by December, but it didn’t happen, and she wrote me asking for prayers because she was feeling discouraged.
So, I prayed and I texted her. And because of what happened, I’ll share the text.
“I can definitely pray for you! I’m sorry you didn’t hit your goal. I know it was something you really wanted to achieve, but God has clearly called you to this role (remember Exodus 33!) and he won’t abandon you halfway. I don’t understand the delay, but I know that he says to Be still and know that I am God (“be still” = “cease to strive”). I pray for God’s peace to fill you, that he will guide you in these next steps, that you will hear his direction --whether to wait and be still, or to give you a new avenue to pursue. Remember that God works best when our ideas run out. I pray for your trust to grow, that God may be glorified in a big way through some awesome windfall He creates 😊”
A few minutes later I received a reply:
How crazy awesome is that??
I remembered that this morning and felt like I ought to mention it because it was a wonderful moment.
In other news: my entire day was Joyful. I was able to work from home in my pajamas, and life scarcely gets better than that. I also got to teach at the gym this evening, and granted, it was a small turnout, but when I offered to do a class of half Attack, half Step, one woman’s faces lit up. “I love Step!” she said, “But the gym doesn’t offer it anymore.” So I’m glad I was able to make her day!
