Drive by Herzlich
So, there's this guy who used to be a part of our home group on the East Side, back before it became Weast Side, when we still met at Watka's old house on Doyle with the little red door. Come to think of it, it was just about three years ago, what I consider the Glory Days of home group--not because it was better than my current home group, but because it was my first home group. My first family. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
Well, Herzlich was part of that initial home group. In fact, he's the guy who so relentlessly invited me to Sanctuary that I probably finally went. (I had to be like DUDE. I ALREADY HAVE A CHURCH. And now I have two.)
Anyway, Herzlich kind of dropped off the face of the earth. For a while he was working in New York during the week and Fall River on the weekends and at his home in Rhode Island maybe three nights, strictly to sleep. Perhaps the last time I saw him was two Christmases ago. He eventually moved to Brooklyn and is there now.
Long story short, my friend Brad was meeting up with him after home group last night. Herzlich was in town visiting and I was a little envious of the two of them, because I texted Herzlich and never heard back.
This morning I wrote Brad to see how his night went. He said it was great catching up with our long lost friend. And not five seconds later, I hear someone honking and yelling my name. It's Herzlich! I kid you not!!
So, I improvised my day and we grabbed a coffee and caught up. The Lord is so mysterious, and awesome. It was such great timing, and a wonderful surprise to see him.
