hi there.

Welcome to my blog. I'm spending a year capturing happiness, and I invite you to come along as I journey toward a more joyful living. I also write about travel, food, and matters of the spirit. Hope you enjoy!

Faust

Faust

Restaurant week, take two.

Thursday's are my nights with my gym girls. The tradition began two years ago, when my two friends would come over after Sarah taught Combat at the gym.

Quite a bit has changed since our ritual formed, but Thursday nights are still our nights, and it's been a few weeks since we all got together because the flu season has been interrupting our plans.

Today was our trio debut, and instead of meeting at my house, we took advantage of Providence Restaurant Week and visited a German restaurant called Faust.

It sits inside of the Dean hotel, a historic hotel in downtown PVD that was renovated to host a karaoke club, a specialty coffee shop, a speakeasy bar, and this German restaurant.

It's where the cool kids go.

So far I'd been to the bar, the coffee shop, and the "Boombox" for karaoke, but I had yet to dine here. The three course, 2-for-1 special, changed that.

Think lots of carbs. Lots of sausage. Mustards and vinegars and sauerkraut. And a lot of delicious.

I was actually surprised by the portions--even though many of these are traditionally "heavy" dishes, they came out in manageable portions that didn't leave one feeling hungry or like a brick.

The dessert was everyone's favorite, though. I was ready for the Apple Strudel to win the day, but a surprise victory went to the Pretzel bread pudding, with dulce de lece and blueberry preserves.

Sweeter than the dessert, however, was the time spent with these two lovely ladies. Restaurant deals might only last a week, but I hope for our traditions to continue always :)
