hi there.

Welcome to my blog. I'm spending a year capturing happiness, and I invite you to come along as I journey toward a more joyful living. I also write about travel, food, and matters of the spirit. Hope you enjoy!

The Red Fez

The Red Fez

The highlight of my day began when the red Fez entered the picture.

I was planning to meet a Scottish guy for drinks (already a win = Scotland), and he asked if I preferred him to wear a fez or a beanie to the bar. The beanie was rainbow-colored and had a helicopter blade spinning from the top.

I said the fez, for reasons of class. But I thought he was joking.

I showed up to the bar, and as I approached the door, I saw through the window a red fez sitting on one of the tables. I couldn't believe he really brought it, but I was impressed in a stunned sort of way.

Long story short, I was commissioned to keep the fez and wear it to dinner, where I was meeting my girlfriends for restaurant week at one of the classier restaurants in downtown PVD, The Dorrance.

"I have a feeling this is going to inspire conversation," Fezzi said.

And he was right. It was quite the conversation piece.

And in fact, we all took turns wearing it. I'm sure Jim the Waiter will never forget the girls with the fez. Particularly since we also made him wear it and pose for a photo.

It was a night of great drinks, great food, and great fun. A little eccentricity goes a long way, in the best possible way, and I'm happy we were all united by this single article of clothing.
