I drove to New York City today to visit my Greek friend, and to attend a baby shower tomorrow for a former Rhode Island dwelling friend.
I woke up to a beautiful day in Rhode Island, hit the road at 10am, and was blessed with perfect driving conditions: a clear day, no precipitation, and semi-overcast so that it wasn't too bright. It was easy driving.
I did take time to give thanks for Google maps, though, without which I wouldn't have had the confidence to drive to NYC. It faithfully guided me where I needed to go, and despite my greatest fears, I didn't hit traffic and I arrived on time.
Finding parking in Manhattan was more of a challenge, because of all of the construction that's happening, so Nikitas walked around trying to find a spot for me, with no success. So, I picked him up and we drove around together until we finally found what seems to be an unrestricted parking spot (fingers crossed), walked the mile or so back to his apartment, and as soon as we sat down upstairs, the snow started falling.
Its been falling ever since. It's a beautiful sight to behold from the inside, but I'm so grateful I'm not driving around in it! My Prius has many great attributes, but "snow beast" isn't one of them. Hopefully the roads will be clear tomorrow afternoon when I drive to the shower, but for now I can delight in the timing and my safe arrival.
And also, quality time with this guy.
